Membership

You can become a member of Remakery Brixton Limited by owning a £1 Share in the Society. This means you can vote on important issues and for the Directors.

See more of what being a member entails below:

In becoming a Member you need to agree to the 'objects' of our Society, which are:
(a) providing workspace and support networks for re-use and upcycling enterprises and initiatives;
(b) making re-use an accessible and attractive option for our local community;
(c) enabling the development of skills, innovation and creative design in re-use and upcycling;
(d) and similar activities to promote and develop resourcefulness and resilience, contributing towards a zero waste Brixton.

What type of organisation is the Remakery?
We are a Community Benefit Society (a type of co-operative, sometimes called a “BenCom” for short) and are registered under the Industrial & Provident Societies Act, being authorised and regulated by the FSA. We have a Board of Directors who run the business, who are voted in by the Members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the first of which will be held in summer 2013. The current Directors were appointed by the founding members. All Members are entitled to attend General Meetings of the society, and it is one Member one vote (however many shares you hold).

What does it mean to own a share in the Remakery?
Unlike a donation, when you purchase a share in the Remakery you become a member and part owner of the project. You are joining a democratic, community-based effort to bring about positive social and environmental change. The shares are primarily intended to bring a return of value to the community rather than a financial return to individual investors, although in future if the Remakery produces a financial surplus members will have the option to receive a limited level of interest on their shares.

Can I buy more shares or invite other people to become members?
Currently we are only offering one share per person, as our main aim is to broaden the member base rather than raise money through the share issue. However, there is an option of further share issues in which larger quantities of shares could be offered. Please let us know if you are interested in investing.

Everyone is welcome to become a member. We will set up an online form for automatic membership applications soon. In the meantime you can download the application form below and bring along to the site with you.

The Remakery's Rules (our governing document) are also available to download below. If you are a Member and would like a printed copy of the Rules, please email people@remakery.org, or write to us at Remakery, 51 Lilford Road, London SE5 9HY.
